Weave-a-Story: 4 Stories, 40 Days, 100 Versions

On International Literacy Day this year (September 8th), Pratham Books launched StoryWeaver, an open source platform of multilingual children’s stories. We launched with our 'Weave-a-Story' campaign that is bringing together 4 amazing authors and illustrators to weave 4 amazing new stories for StoryWeaver's community. The first story in this series is 'It's All the Cat's Fault!' - a wonderful and whimsical new story written by well-regarded writer Anushka Ravishankar and illustrated by the very talented Priya Kuriyan.

While Anushka's and Priya's story was published on the very day StoryWeaver was born, the next three will be released on every Tuesday for the rest of this month. So there, your next few Tuesdays are going to have a new surprise.

The idea of 'Weave-a-Story' is to encourage community participation and this is where we would love for you – our generous and vibrant community - to step in and take charge. We're looking for as many translations of these 4 stories as possible because after all, language diversity is so integral to making reading a more inclusive experience for children across the world. We're thrilled that in just 2 days, 'It's All the Cat's Fault!' was translated into Hindi, Marathi, Kannada, Tamil, Malayalam, Sanskrit and Odia. And, Punjabi and Dutch are almost done too! Think about it, that's nearly 10 translations done on StoryWeaver in just half a week. And that's the power of collaboration, right? Imagine how far and wide all these stories can travel, and how much joy it can bring into the lives of our children. And for this to happen, all we need to do is work together! We're now hoping to create 100 new versions of these 4 stories in 40 days.
